Closure of primary schools
The Punjab government has announced the closure of all primary schools for a week due to heavy smog and poor air quality index in Lahore region. The Information Minister said during the press conference that the air quality index has crossed the dangerous level of 1000+, which is harmful to human health.
This measure has been taken due to the harmful smoke coming from India and the increasing smog in Lahore. All parents have been instructed not to send their children to primary schools as classes from playgroup to class V will remain suspended. In high schools, only classes up to primary will be closed while the rest of the classes will continue as usual.
This decision has been taken in view of the health of citizens and the safety of children. The closure of schools is for a week, after which the situation will be reassessed.
The government has also urged citizens to take precautionary measures, such as limiting outdoor activities and using protective masks to reduce exposure to the harmful air. Authorities are working on various initiatives to combat the smog, including water sprinkling on roads and reducing vehicular emissions. Public cooperation is vital to help reduce the smog impact and protect vulnerable groups, especially children and the elderly.
